Morley Callahan Bridge, tunnel & walkway reopening

Footbridge with multiple pedestrians over wooded ravine with high-rises in the background

A celebration hosted by the Bloor East Neighbourhood Association (BENA) and the South Rosedale Residents’ Association (SRRA) will be held on September 13, 2025, to mark the official opening of the new Morley Callaghan Bridge.

The bridge, a significant piece of local infrastructure crossing the Rosedale Valley Ravine, connecting north St James Town and South Rosedale, features a wider bridge pathway, a rebuilt tunnel from the Glen Road exit at the Sherbourne subway station and a new access from Bloor Street East. It has also been modernized to improve safety, accessibility, and visual appeal, ensuring this critical link serves the community for generations to come. The design also incorporates aesthetic elements that reflect the historical significance of the footbridge, which is listed on the City’s heritage inventory. While commonly known as the Glen Road Pedestrian Bridge, it has now been renamed the Morley Callaghan Bridge.

“The opening of the new Morley Callaghan Bridge is a moment of great pride and relief for our community,” said Linda Brett, President of the Bloor Street East Neighbourhood Association. “This bridge is more than just a walkway; it’s a gateway that physically and symbolically links two vibrant local communities. We thank the City of Toronto and the project teams for their diligent work in bringing this project to fruition, and we are excited to see residents and visitors alike enjoy this beautiful new structure.”

“The Morley Callaghan Bridge is a treasured part of the South Rosedale Heritage Conservation District,” said Janice Lo, Chair of the South Rosedale Residents Association. “Its replacement ensures that this historic connection endures while meeting the needs of a modern city. The SRRA is delighted with the result and looks forward to the revitalized pathway enhancing the quality of life for all who use it. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Glen Road Village community for the years of steadfast support, encouragement and neighbourhood activism.
